What we can help with
People seek therapy for many reasons. At Recover Psychology, we work with adults experiencing alcohol and other drug concerns, as well as the challenges that often sit alongside them.
Common areas we support include:
Alcohol and other drug use, dependence, and recovery
Motivation for change and ambivalence about stopping or reducing use
Relapse prevention and maintaining change
Anxiety, stress, and emotional regulation
Low mood, burnout, and loss of direction
Habit change and behavioural patterns
Relationship and communication difficulties
Life transitions, identity changes, and rebuilding after periods of instability
Confidence, self-worth, and boundaries
Alcohol and other drug concerns often don’t exist in isolation. Therapy takes a whole-person approach, recognising the broader emotional, psychological, and life context around substance use.
If you’re unsure whether therapy is the right fit for what you’re dealing with, you’re welcome to reach out and ask.
What to expect
In the first session, we’ll talk through what’s been happening, what you’d like to change, and what support would feel most helpful right now.
For people working on alcohol or other drug issues, this may include exploring patterns of use, triggers, motivation, and what has or hasn’t helped in the past — always at your pace.
You won’t be pushed to talk about anything before you’re ready. Therapy is collaborative, respectful, and focused on practical steps forward.
